Escondido Union High School District Professional Learning
Learning is at the heart of all we do in the Escondido Union High School District. Therefore, to help ensure teaching and learning occur at the highest levels, EUHSD educators engage in a cycle of continuous learning and improvement that includes inquiry, action research, data analysis, planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.
Please visit the EUHSD Professional Learning Calendar which is updated regularly and includes information regarding formal professional learning and curriculum related events and workshops taking place here in the EUHSD.
Professional Learning News and Updates:
This year EUHSD continues to focus on aligning professional learning and support to the California Mathematics Standards, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), English Learner State Frameworks and research, the new CA History/Social Studies frameworks, and continued implementation of the CA Standards—including the Literacy Standards for Science, History/Social Studies and the Technical Subjects—in all content areas.
In addition, we continue to focus on refining and creating new courses and pathways in the Career Technical Subjects (CTE) as well as working with our post-secondary partners including local colleges and universities to ensure our students have various options both now and after graduation to engage in learning and work that is engaging and relevant to their strengths and interests.
For more information about the State Standards in all content areas, please visit our California Content Learning Standards Page.
The Professional Learning Community (PLC) as the Heart of Professional Learning
EUHSD educators are organized into various Professional Learning Communities. PLCs allow educators to engage in professional learning at the site level as they meet and collaborate in grade-level and department meetings, for example. In addition, teachers are provided opportunities to learn outside the school at the district, county, state, and national level through workshops and conferences.
The following actions take place primarily at the school-site level with support from district, site, and teacher leadership and are at the heart of what drives our educators’ professional learning:
- The use of data to determine student and educator learning needs
- Identification of shared goals for student and educator learning
- Professional learning to extend educators’ knowledge of content, content-specific pedagogy, how students learn, and management of classroom environments
- Selection and implementation of appropriate evidence-based strategies and routines to achieve student and educator learning goals
- Application of the learning with coaching support
- Use of evidence to monitor and refine implementation
