Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! Before mentioning some of the exciting changes involving our adult education program, I would like to highlight a few of the school’s accomplishments during the last year. In May, Escondido Adult School (EAS) earned the maximum six-year term of accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Veterans Administration approved many of the school’s career technical programs so that veterans could use their education benefits to cover tuition costs. In June, 222 students earned their high school diplomas or high school equivalency certificates. Also in June the San Diego Workforce Partnership awarded the school a contract education grant to support its certified nurse assistant program.
As a proud member of the Education to Career Network (ETCN) of North San Diego County, EAS, as well as its partner members of Poway, Vista, Ramona and San Marcos Adult Schools and Palomar Community College, are now in the implementation phase of a three-year plan that was created to better serve the adult students of North County. EAS has now hired a full time transitions coordinator who will assist students with the transition among various adult school programs; enrollment in other postsecondary options; or preparation for employment. The ETCN has also hired a job developer who will provide assistance for all students within the network who are seeking employment.
Some other changes on the horizon include expanded services of ESL programs within the Escondido community in partnership with the Escondido School District; an increase in the publication of this course catalog from two to three times per year; and additional online or blended learning options for students.
I hope you will take advantage of the many low-cost course options our program has to offer and that you have a wonderful learning experience at our school in the coming year.
