The Escondido Union High School District (EUHSD) is honored to announce the 2018 Classified Employees of the Year. These outstanding individuals have contributed support to students, families and staff going above and beyond in their service to the district. They inspire us all as we. We want to thank them for their many contributions and for inspiring us all as we work together to ensure students is ready for success in college, a career and in life.
Mary Garcia (Escondido High School)
District-wide Employee of the Year
Mary Garcia is a person with integrity, responsibility and discipline. She demonstrates commitment and excellence at Escondido High School. Her work is exemplary, of highest quality, and she manages multiple responsibilities. She always goes that extra mile to help EHS students and parents. She also has the knowledge from working in two of our busiest offices; the Attendance Office and the Assistant Principal’s office.
As registrar, Mary interacts well with others, and assists students and parents with many of their school documents such as transcript requests, modifications to class schedules, report cards and diplomas. She is a step ahead and takes initiative when requesting reports or information and constantly shares vital information with the Assistant Principal’s office. She is a team player.
Mary is caring and devoted when working with our students, parents and staff. She is conscientious and sensitive to student, staff, and parent needs. Mary has great communication and listening skills. She is responsive and communicative in all her work. She is positive, friendly, and always maintains a smile.
Mary is multilingual. She speaks English, Spanish, Arabic and Chaldean. She is an alumni of EHS, Class of 1998. She has been with our district for nearly 17 years, and is a valued member of our school. Mary Garcia demonstrates what it means to be a loyal, strong and true Cougar!
Patrice Miles (Maintenance & Operations)
As the M & O Secretary, Patrice Miles consistently shows a superior understanding of her position and the difficulties of completing various tasks. Patrice delivers the best service and always responds with a positive “can-do” attitude that does not end until the task is completed. She works daily with the maintenance crew and the office staff from every site to make the most efficient use of time and efforts; all the while showing how a professional can make the workplace enjoyable and productive. She has close to 20 years with the EUHSD and her children also attended Escondido High School. Patrice and her husband built their house in our community and have supported Escondido as responsible, caring community residents for years.
Sonia Lopez (Escondido Adult School)
Since she started her career with the Adult Education/ROP program in 1994, Sonia has been a highly dedicated and conscientious employee. She has assumed many roles and responsibilites in the ROP (Regional Occupation Program) which provide a wide variety of vocational education programs throughout the district. Sonia is always willing to assist in school activities such as job and career fairs and making presentations to community groups, including middle schools and high schools, about ROP vocational programs. In 2005, she was awarded the “Distinguished Support Staff Award” from the San Diego County Regional Occupational Program. Sonia truly deserves recognition as an outstanding classified employee.
Miguel Velasquez (Del Lago Academy)
Miguel is an exemplary worker. As a custodian, he is driven to complete his job with the highest level of quality. His colleagues and his supervisors speak about this work ethic and his professional demeanor to staff, students, and parents or guests to Del Lago Academy. Miguel is very involved in school activities. He works alongside ASB scholars and staff to help set up and organize school-related events. Miguel is extremely hard-working and attends to all of the tasks to which he is assigned. He is on time and truly cares about the safety and well-being of the scholars and staff and works tirelessly to ensure that the campus reflects a strong sense of caring.
Rienda Lievanos (San Pasqual High School)
Rienda Lievanos currently serves as one of San Pasqual High School’s Attendance Support Clerks and has been a welcome addition to the front office since 2016. Prior to taking on her new job responsibilities in the Attendance Office, Rienda supported both students and staff fulfilling their needs as clerical support in the SPHS Library. In her twenty plus years of service to the Escondido Unified High School District, Rienda has proven to be a selfless team player who always goes above and beyond what’s expected in order to provide excellent customer service, support, and care to every student, staff member, and family that she encounters on a daily basis.
Socorro Arroyo (Orange Glen High School)
Socorro has a big heart! She is always willing to go above and beyond for those in need. She has been with the District for approximately 15 years. Her commitment to our students, parents and our community is inspiring. If she hears about students, families or staff members in need, she is always willing to help without hesitation. She shows up for work every day with a positive and helpful attitude. She is always on task and completes her work in a timely manner and is respected by her colleagues. She takes initiative and helps out in other departments such as the counseling and reception area when she sees that they are short staffed.
