Superintendent's Office Community Relations

Introduction

With enrollment reaching over 7500 students each day during the school year, the Escondido Union High School District takes pride in providing a well balanced academic lifestyle that can lead to a strong backbone to future achievement after graduation.

Effective communication helps bring effective education, a social relationship that creates areas for success. Through the emergence of various social media utilities, schools must be able to manage the flow of information, finding ways to creatively inform the public of district happenings. The need to develop and implement cohesive communication initiatives will ensure that the family and the community at large is informed and kept up to date on school activities, achievement indicators and updated policies. Connecting with the community, EUHSD hopes to build, maintain, and strengthen our bond with students, parents, teachers, administrators, as well as our fellow neighbors within the community.

Responsible for the internal and external communications within the district, the Community Relations department strives hard to share the latest district news with the region as well as building partnerships with local organizations.

Social Media Policy

The Governing Board supports the use of online social media to facilitate district programs, departments and school sites in building a more successful parent, community, student and employee network. “Social Media” includes the various online technology tools that enable people to communicate easily over the internet to share information and resources. Social media can include text, audio, video, images, podcasts, and other multimedia communications. These websites not only provide information, but allows for interaction during this informational exchange through user-generated content.

For Students:

Students are permitted to use social media at school as long as it is school related. We encourage students to check their school’s Facebook page, their teacher’s class page and groups on Facebook, and school related Twitter feeds. As always, your teacher will determine the appropriate time during class to use any technology.

It is also very important that students keep safe, smart and be responsible digital citizens. Students in the Escondido Union High School District will learn curriculum from CommonSenseMedia.org:

Grade 9: Private Today, Public Tomorrow – Students reflect on their responsibility to protect the privacy of others when posting information about them online.

Grade 10: Risky Online Relationships – Students think critically about developing relationships with people online.

Grade 11: College Bound – Students learn that everything they or anyone else posts about them online becomes part of a public online presence known as a digital footprint.

Grade 12: Taking Perspectives on Cyberbullying – Students learn about the dynamics of online cruelty and how it affects all of the people involved.

A good rule of thumb would be if you would not bring it to a college admissions interview, do not post it online!
