Simon Family Foundation Launches Simon Scholars at Orange Glen and San Pasqual High School

EUHSD Simon Scholars
Partnering with the Simon Family Foundation, the Escondido Union High School District proudly announces an initiative for Orange Glen and San Pasqual students. The Simon Scholars Program was created to enable students facing difficult life and economic circumstances to graduate from high school with enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence and then to provide the means by which these students can earn a bachelor’s degree in their quest to become productive, independent and self-sufficient individuals.

An application and interview process for current 10th grade students will be held in the spring, with eight students from Orange Glen and San Pasqual, respectively, being selected to participate. The Simon Scholars program is a unique 6-year scholarship program that begins during a student’s junior year in high school and continues through 4 years of college. It is designed to help students to excel academically and socially so they are well prepared to successfully complete a 4-year college degree.

Simon Scholars are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA by the end of their junior year of high school. During high school, students receive a cash stipend, a computer, social skills training, academic support, leadership training and community service activities. Scholars are also provided with college-preparatory assistance through ACT and SAT courses, college tours and assistance in the application process from college coaches. Following the completion of high school, Simon Scholars receive a $16,000 college scholarship.

The Simon Foundation selects more than 120 new Simon Scholars each academic year nation-wide. Currently, over 250 Scholars participate in the High School Program, and over 350 in the College Program. Simon Scholars attend prestigious colleges throughout the country earning degrees from universities such as Harvard, Smith, UC Berkeley and UC Irvine. To date, the Simon Foundation has provided over $25 million in financial aid to our Scholars.

We greatly appreciate the significant investment the Simon Family Foundation is making in the lives of EUHSD students and look forward to highlighting the accomplishments and achievements of Simon Scholars with you in the future.
