Messages from the Superintendent

May 2023

May 10, 2023

Dear EUHSD families,

I have bittersweet news to share. Following four years of teamwork and immensely fulfilling collaboration with EUHSD, I will be leaving the District.

I respect, admire, and enjoy the Escondido Union High School District team so deeply. Since I was first hired in 1992 as a teacher in San Pasqual to my return as Superintendent in 2019, it has been my privilege and honor to serve in this wonderful community.

There are times in life that an opportunity comes along that your heart and mind tell you it is something that you must explore, and that is my situation.I have accepted the offer to serve as Superintendent of the San Dieguito Union High School District, effective in the new school year. The Board’s final decision will be made on May 17, but I did not want their announcement to be the source of news to you, our families.

I am so very proud of the work and tireless commitment of our staff to students and to one another.

It is with a grateful heart that I make this personal and professional move.EUHSD will be sharing the process and upcoming opportunities for your input as they work on the new superintendent selection. May we all enjoy a safe, healthy, and productive final month of our school year.

With sincere gratitude and appreciation,

Anne L. Staffieri, Ed.D.

Dear EUHSD families,

EUHSD considers the health and well-being of our students and staff a priority. We continue to closely follow and adhere to guidelines set by the California Department of Public Health and local health agencies. Recent changes to these guidelines mean that beginning October 1, our district will no longer notify families when a student has been a close contact of someone who tests positive for COVID-19.

What does this mean for you and your student?

  • Please continue to monitor your student’s health daily and do not send students with COVID-19 symptoms to school. Students with symptoms may return to school after receiving one negative antigen test result. Free take home COVID-19 test kits are available on each campus through the health office.
  • Students may remain in school unless they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19. Being exposed to somebody with COVID-19 does not necessarily mean that your student will become infected.
  • If your student develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19, please ensure they isolate at home immediately and notify us right away. When you notify us, we can take additional steps to keep our school community safe.

For additional questions please contact a member of our COVID Response Team at [email protected] (760) 291-3217, or [email protected] (760) 291-3219 with questions and concerns. Thank you for your continued support to keep our school community safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Anne L. Staffieri, Ed.D.

Atentamente,

Anne L. Staffieri, Ed.D.

Dear EUHSD families,

We are excited to welcome students back to our campuses for the 2022-2023 school year on Tuesday, August 9. We hope your students were able to recharge during the break and are ready for the upcoming school year.

As we anticipate the start of a new school year, we remain committed to keeping our school community safe and healthy and invite you to review the COVID-19 Guide for the 2022-2023 School Year for complete guidance and protocols. We continue to monitor COVID-19 and follow the guidance set forth by the California Department of Public Health. If you have any questions or input related to our COVID-19 Guide, please contact Paula Zamudio, [email protected] 760-291-3237.

Our district follows group contact tracing and families will be notified each time a student is a close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 via email and text message.

As has been the case, please continue to monitor your student’s health daily and do not send students with COVID-19 symptoms to school. Students with symptoms may be able to return to school as soon as day two of the onset of symptoms after receiving two negative antigen tests taken at least 12 hours apart. Free take home test kits are available for EUHSD students at each school site. For complete guidance, consult the COVID-19 Decision Trees for K-12 Schools.

Thank you for your continued support to keep our school community safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Anne L. Staffieri, Ed.D.

Atentamente,

Anne L. Staffieri, Ed.D.

COVID-19 Dashboard

All confirmed COVID-19 cases related to Escondido Union High School District campuses and offices will be posted to this dashboard. EUHSD separately counts individuals – students or staff members – with a confirmed positive test who had been on campus during an infectious state. Remote cases are counted separately and are those who have not come onto campus within close contact of other students and staff.

Once the district learns of an individual who has tested positive at a school site or office, these steps are followed:

  • Isolate individuals if present.
  • Clean and treat any affected areas.
  • Contact trace within EUHSD to determine close contacts.
  • Notify anyone within EUHSD determined to have had close contact.
Free at-home test kits are available for students and staff at all school sites and the District Service Center. Close contacts are advised to test on day three, four, or five of being exposed.
  • Notify anyone who may have been in proximity, such as in the classroom, school, or office.
  • Follow any additional recommendations from the San Diego County public health officials.
  • Consult with local health officials.

EUHSD CONFIRMED CASES - Dashboard numbers will be updated every Tuesday (current as of the previous Friday).
